About – Tabora Johnson

Dr. Johnson is a Full Professor and Department Chair of Teacher Education at Medgar Evers College, CUNY. With over two decades of experience spanning middle and high school classrooms to graduate-level teacher preparation, her research focuses on race, culture, and identity in education, particularly how teacher candidates enact culturally responsive pedagogy. A globally recognized scholar, Dr. Johnson has presented at major peer-reviewed conferences worldwide and aspires to engage audiences across six continents. Her recent book, Recruiting Black Biology Majors into STEM Education Careers, explores strategies for increasing Black representation in STEM education. Beyond academia, she is a dedicated mentor, grant recipient, and advocate for equity in education, continually working to bridge gaps in teacher recruitment and culturally responsive pedagogy.
