Maureen Connolly, Ed.D. is a professor of Secondary Education at The College of New Jersey. Before that, she was an English teacher in New York, for fifteen years. She also served as service learning grant coordinator for schools in the New York Metropolitan Area. In these roles, Maureen has developed many standards-based initiatives that link community outreach, character education, and literacy. Maureen was selected by Teachers for the Global Classroom for an international fellowship in Morocco. Her international experience also includes teaching and/or leading professional development in India, Ghana, Peru, Spain, Czech Republic, Japan, and Romania. All of this experience has helped Maureen to write several books including the Building Your Teaching Toolbox Series and Achieving Next Generation Literacy: Using the Tests (You Think) You Hate to Help the Student You Love. Maureen believes that at the core of her profession is the need to develop purposeful learning that opens students’ eyes to the potential for positive change in themselves and in their local, national, and global communities.
