Dr. Small is Professor and Chair of Biology at Medgar Evers College. She earned her Ph.D. in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology, focusing on Genetics, Innate Immunity, and Genomics, from the CUNY Graduate Center, and completed postdoctoral training in Pharmacology at NYU School of Medicine. She teaches General Biology, Genetics, Developmental Biology, and Human Genomics. Her research investigates how developmental pathways regulate stem cell maintenance and differentiation in Drosophila hematopoiesis, as well as factors influencing STEM student recruitment. Dr. Small has published multiple research articles and laboratory science textbooks, mentors student researchers, and co-directs the STEM teacher training program TIPS. She is dedicated to supporting undergraduates pursuing careers in biomedical sciences and STEM fields.
